There is no gender

I am not an expert in gender ideology, nor in the social sciences. My formal education and my work took me to different areas: my initial interests were in the exact sciences, and I ended up working in the biomedical field. So, in this short text, I basically go with my opinion, the way I understand this issue, but not an erudite, or even a professional approach.

I find it strange to see the term “gender ideology”, as I had never thought that gender could be the object of a political dispute. My naivety, of course. Not only can it, but the ideological discussion about gender has become central in various subjects, being the focus of debates (and gross disputes) in the most disparate stages possible.

My opinion on this had been formed for a long time, since adolescence, when I horrified my “male” colleagues by saying that I didn’t give a damn about sex, I didn’t care about it and, above all, I didn’t want to be a slave to a stereotype. Of course, the answer I heard most from hormone-ridden teenagers back then was, “because I care.” Or something like that. But that’s right, I’ve always found this macho stereotype that they wanted to instill in my head back then (“f*** the girls, otherwise someone else will come and do it”, was a common phrase among the adorable boys at the time) much more than a nuisance, a real invasion, an attempt to force me to live in a certain way. And if there’s something I never knew how to deal with, something I can’t stand, it’s the attempt to control myself, to take away my freedom.

So, for me, the gender issue has always been very clear and resolved in my head: I don’t care about your gender, don’t care about mine. Are you homosexual? Excellent. Do you like being straight macho? Wonderful. Do you think you have to be feminine to be a woman (whatever that is)? Perfect! Do you believe that women and men should be equal in everything? Beautiful, keep it up. BUT DON’T COME MESS WITH ME AND HOW I FEEL!

Today, I see the subject more clearly and, even without having a formal knowledge about it, I fully support the gender ideology. For me, gender doesn’t even exist, not in the simple way that many want. As I understand the human mind, I don’t understand how anyone can be so naive as to seriously want to believe that there is a gender in the mind. In fact, no gender is equivalent to saying that there are as many genders as there are people in the world, because each person has their particular. If mine is the same as yours, phenomenal, if not, let’s each live a full life in our own way. I see this rage of trying to change the other as a very basic, very deep limitation of people’s being. Only those who do not have a complete understanding of themselves and, on top of that, are very afraid of knowing themselves, can really embark on a crusade to change the behavior of others.

There is more, however: I have never seriously believed in universal good and evil, but not only do I believe, but I fear the evil that human beings are capable of. And, in my view, much of what lies behind prejudice and the attempt to control others is the evil of humanity, pure and simple. I’d rather be good, and not be prejudiced, and support gender ideology.
